Its finally here!  I installed my show "Signs and Signifiers" at More Fire Glass Studio in Rochester New York!  it was so awesome to be in my hometown and have a chance to show my work.  I had a chance to reconnect with Jennifer Schinzing, Rebecca Arday, and Elizabeth Lyons.  These three ladies run More Fire and make amazing work themselves.  They have been a huge part of getting me to where I am today through their friendship and support.  Im not generally good about the gushy stuff but I just cant say enough good about them- they are all inspirational energy to be around.

A culmination of the last years work I am so excited to show this work and share it with everyone.

i have a really special show coming up that is near and dear to my heart.  i am showing work in October at More Fire Glass Studio.  it is the studio i first started working with glass.  a small production studio in Rochester NY More Fire is run by a group of amazing and inspirational ladies.  primarily focusing on the series of hands i have been working on the show is called Signs and Signifiers.  i will have a few blown pieces in the show as well though.  please stop by and check out the work if you find yourself in the area!

i havent post anything in a long time...its actually been over a year!  i have still been working on both making my work and making improvements to my lathe and my studio. 

i have some exciting things coming up in the near future and i will try to be better about posting them more often here!  in the meantime you can follow me on instgram @crashkillbert.  

here are just a few images from a residency I recently completed at the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood WA. I thought i was being so good and taking photos of everything along the way but i don't think any amount of photos i have really could give you an idea of how amazing my time up there was. Looking back at what I actually have as far as images to post it doesn't seem like much and certainly does not do the residency justice as far as how much i learned and how amazing everyone was that we got to work with.
there was a group of six artists as part of the residency- Cappy Thompson, Charlie Parriott, April Surgent, Jaraslov Sara, Pavlina Cambalova, and Myself.  the focus of the residency was really glass engraving and trying to carry on the information that is getting lost.   three of us were expert glass engravers and three of us were novice engravers.  we really wanted to cover a lot of ground for how much time we had- stone wheel, copper wheel, and diamond wheel engraving as well as maintenance of the lathe and mounting different wheels to spindles.  i have to say we at least touched on all of these points- we really worked together and covered a lot of ground.  on top of engraving we also covered enameling on glass and different printing techniques to use with the engravings we were all working on.

It still needs a bit of work but my lathe is finally up and running!  About a year ago myself and two friends purchased lathes from the Czech Republic.  After finding a motor and building a table and a few other parts and pieces it is up and running and I cannot tell you how excited it makes me to be the proud owner of such a beautiful machine!  I also recently finished a residency at Pilchuck that I plan to post about soon!  The focus of the residency was brining six glass artists together- three novice glass engravers and three expert glass engravers- to come together and share ideas and approaches to glass engraving.  

i am really happy to be a part of this group show that is currently still up at the Museum of Northwest Art in LaConner, WA.  

"Often referencing scientific research as well as a natural world in the midst of profound change, Accreted Terrane collectively demonstrates the ongoing strengths of contemporary art in the Northwest in terms of innovation in materials, new perspectives on nature, and a sustained engagement with conceptual content. While the exhibition’s title, borrowed from a geological lexicon, is interpreted differently by each artist, the cumulative effect “evokes a world from which human beings are notably absent or indirectly present, perhaps even estranged,” as guest curator David Francis suggests."

I am really excited to be a part of Exchange Rates opening tonight in Brooklyn, New York! 


"Conceived and produced by arts organizations helmed by artists and curators in Bushwick, Brooklyn and London, England, Exchange Rates—known also in this inaugural iteration as The Bushwick Expo—is an international exposition of artworks and curatorial programs in which host spaces in one art community open their doors and share their walls with kindred spaces on visit from elsewhere."

I wish so much that i could be there for the opening but I am sure it will be a great time for all that are in attendance!  if you want to know more about the show here is a link. 

I am honored to have been nominated for the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation of Art Award.  To celebrate the seventh year of the award they organized a show of all the nominated artists.

I thought this might be a good first Blog Post.  It is a video shot by Derek Kline of my residency at the Museum of Glass in February.  It kind of explains the most recent body of work i made and a little bit of the process that goes into making the work.

This residency was a really incredible opportunity for me as an artist to realize a lot of my ideas.  It was also really interesting to be on the other side of the residency- I am usually part of the team supporting the Visiting Artist.  Not only was this a great experience in making my work but it also gave me a little bit of insight as what each visiting artist is going through as far as the planning, nerves, and excitement leading up to a residency.  

I could not have been happier with the work I made- I am honored to work with the crew i do everyday and they really came through for me to make this week run as smooth as possible.
